History or comments

A highly active congregation in an area that was little more than swamp 30 years ago but today is recognized as one of the top ten Jewish neighborhoods in the United States.

The Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center — Beth Jacob is a case of “build it and they will come”. Beth Jacob Synagogue was established in the 1976 when Aventura was sparsely settled. Initially the Synagogue occupied a simple storefront space of only 1,000 or 1,200 square feet. Its farsighted members obtained donations to build the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center which contains a magnificent sanctuary, chapel and multiple social halls; a unique Holocaust Memorial designed by Israeli artist Frank Meisler; and “The Tauber Academy,” a state-of-the-art Jewish Early Childhood Education Center.

The Center was dedicated in 1990 and today offers a wide range of spiritual, cultural, educational and social programming for members of all ages. The highly active congregation of 800 families, together with its inspiring clergy, values Jewish learning, spiritual worship, service to the community and support for the State of Israel. Aventura, is now recognized as one of the ” Top Ten Jewish Neighborhoods” in the United States.
