This synagogue, which served the Jewish community of Bellingham for over 90 years will soon be replaced by a new, modern facility.
Congregation Beth Israel of Bellingham is a Reform synagogue formally established in 1908. Initially, the congregation consisted mostly of Jewish immigrants from Lithuania. Originally Orthodox, it became more liberal following World War II, and in 1987 joined the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.
The synagogue shown on these webpages was built in 1925. The photos herein were taken in November of 2016 when the synagogue was still in regular, active use. At that time the congregation had a new, larger synagogue under construction on a campus in suburban Bellingham.
