A focal point of the northern Utah Jewish Community.

Jewish immigrants arrived in Ogden with the railroad in the mid to late 1800s. In 1890 they formed Congregation Ohab Shalem. The congregation was renamed Brith Sholem, Covenant of Peace, in 1916. In 1921 a synagogue was dedicated at its present current location.

Between 1917 and 1935 the Congregation had a series of six resident rabbis. However, with the onset of the Great Depression the Congregation shrank and could no longer support a rabbi. Since that time the members have conducted ceremonies, religious services and maintained traditions.

In 1989 Brith Sholem was damaged by fire. The building maintained its structural integrity but there was major interior damage. The synagogue was rededicated on the 15th of September, 1990. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Brith Sholem continues as an active, caring and religiously observant congregation. In addition to celebration of Jewish holidays Shabbat services are conducted every Friday evening.
