The first synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations to be granted arms by the Canadian Heraldic Authority.

Machzikei Hadas is a modern Orthodox congregation located in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, Ontario. The name literally translates from Hebrew as "Supporters of the law." Ottawa's Jewish population grew from about 20 families in 1889 to approximately 5,500 by 1961.

The congregation originally met in various congregants homes and in 1908 moved into its first permanent synagogue building. In 1973 Machzikei Hadas relocated to a newly designed synagogue building which is its home today.

In 1994 it was the first synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations to be granted arms by the Canadian heraldic authority.
