The largest Jewish congregation in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

The Temple Beth Shalom congregation was founded in 1960 by four Reform families. At first services were held in a fire station and then at a local church. Growing quickly, within months the congregation added a religious school, Men’s Club and Sisterhood. Today, Temple Beth Shalom is the largest Jewish congregation in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

By 1963 an eleven acre tract of land was purchased along with an existing single-family home that was converted into a sanctuary. During the next ten years a new sanctuary and social hall were built and in 1996 a large additional building was dedicated containing classrooms, library and offices. In 2003 a severe winter storm rendered the sanctuary and social hall unusable resulting in the completion of the current sanctuary and social hall in 2007. The building was designed by Washington, D.C. based architect Charles Anthony.
