Temple Sinai of Sumter, officially named the Sumter Society of Israelites was built in 1912 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 21, 1999. The first Jewish settlers in Sumter were Sephardic Jews who came from Charleston in 1815. the Congregation was initially formed in 1895
The synagogue’s most outstanding feature is the eleven drapery stained glass windows on the entry and side walls. Which depict scenes from the Tanakh, or Hebrew Bible. Each window is five feet wide by twenty feet tall.
